Midterm Composition Project (100 points)

This project is due Wednesday, September 22, at the end of school.

Task: Compose Two Melodies

Parameters

• This project MUST BE handwritten 

• Your choice of key signatures, but...

  • One melody in a major key

  • One melody in a minor key  

• Your choice of time signatures

• Your choice of clef signs

• Length of each melody is four measures

Analysis

• Interval analysis for every note

• Key signature analysis

Grading Rubric

• 2 points for every rhythmically complete measure  (16 points possible)

• 2 points for every correctly notated measure (16 points possible)

• 14 points each melody composed for the intended key  (28 point possible)

• 4 points for every correct key signature analysis (8 point possible)

• 4 points for every measure with correct melodic intervals analysis  (32 point possible)

• -20 points if the project is not handwritten

• -5 points if both melodies are in a major key

• -5 points if both melodies are in a minor key

• -5 points if a melody is not 4 measures in length

• +5 extra credit points for overall artistic beauty
