Student Life Remember, the annual Christmas Vespers service begins at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9, in the Memorial Chapel. Please celebrate the holiday season with students, faculty, and staff. All members of the school community are encouraged to attend. Driver’s education class is at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, above the post office. New students are welcome to sign up. The Community Service Council is selling holiday ornaments to support the local “Shop with a Cop” program for needy children in our area. Please talk with your CSC rep and consider making a donation to this important cause. The officers who spoke to the CSC about their work informed us that the children this program supports are our neighbors and are considered to be the “working poor.” This means their parents work full time, sometimes in more than one job, but their income does not provide enough for the extra expense of holiday gifts. The “Shop with a Cop” program provides funding for children to purchase things they need and things they want. When the police officers take the children shopping, they are always surprised by what children tell them. The kids ask for socks, boots, mittens, their own toothbrush, and always something for their parents. The least requested items are toys. Our goal this year is to raise $1,100 to adopt 11 children. Any contribution you can make will help provide these children with gifts for the holidays. Anyone who is interested in helping at the shopping event on Dec. 15 should contact Mrs. Kelley. The officers have noted that Spanish speakers would be an especially big help. Come one, come all to the Dancevision performances at 7:30 p.m. tonight and tomorrow, Dec. 7 and 8, in Eppley Auditorium. “Fred Claus” begins at the Uptown Cinema tonight, Dec. 7. Showtimes are 7 and 9:30 p.m. tonight, Dec. 7, 1, 3:30, 7 and 9:30 p.m. tomorrow, Dec. 8, and 1, 3:30 and 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9. A recreation ride is at 10 a.m. every Saturday. Please sign up by emailing Ms. Relos.
Faculty/ Staff The Community Service Council needs faculty and staff members to drive student volunteers to Culver Elementary School and St. Mary’s Childcare on College Ave. We are hoping to volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club and St. Mary’s Childcare after school on Mondays and Thursdays, leaving around 3:15 (the return time is flexible, probably around 5:00 or so). We would also like to have a trip to St. Mary’s Childcare on Mondays during 3rd CP. Please contact Anne Kelley (8076) if you would be willing to help drop off, pick up, or both, at any of these times. If you are interested in staying to volunteer with the children, that is great, but not necessary.
