Study abroad in Italy this summer

Think Italy and summer. For students interested in the Spoleto Study Abroad summer program, come view some amazing photos of what you can experience in Italy in the ground-floor hallway of the Humanities Building. Brochures are available. Contact Mrs. Battersby for more information.

Another Academies athlete headed to Princeton

Adam Shippey has verbally committed to play football next season at Princeton University. He joins a growing list of CMA and CGA athletes headed to the school, including classmate Alex Banfich (cross country) and 2007 CMA graduates Will MacDonald (hockey) and Michael Sdao (hockey). Both MacDonald and Sdao are playing in the United States Hockey League this season and will matriculate at Princeton in the fall of 2008 or 2009.

Student Life

The Spanish Honorary Society is offering 20 expense-paid trips to Mexico this year. If you are a junior and have taken Spanish, you are encouraged to participate in the annual Spanish Travel Awards. Completed applications must be post-marked no later than Feb. 15. For additional information please see Mr. Garzón in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages from 3 to 4 p.m.

Chapel After-Hours will be held from 9:10 to 9:40 p.m. every Wednesday evening in the Memorial Chapel. During this time period, silence and candlelight will be observed.  At 9:30 an optional “harmony walk” will be offered using hand-held bells while walking the aisles of the chapel. Sign out with the BI or RD at 9 p.m.

Softball intramurals will be held in the rec. building from 5:15 until 6:15 p.m. today, Jan. 15 and Thursday, Jan. 17.  All girls interested in playing varsity or junior varsity softball this spring are encouraged to attend if they are not involved in any other activity at this time. Bring your glove if you have it, but show up even if you don’t. If you have any questions, please contact Holly Johnson or Mr. Burgess.

No all-school meeting will be held tomorrow, Jan. 16. Mentees will meet with their mentors for one hour beginning at 2 p.m.

A Morning Prayer service is held at 6:45 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Alumni Lounge of the Legion Memorial Building. Evening Prayer services are held at 5:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays in the Meditation Chapel. These services consist of prayers and scriptures, and they are a great way to practice your faith and pray for the community. On the Episcopal Church calendar, we are reminded annually of those whose lives are a witness to us. This week we commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King (Jan. 15) and Antony of Egypt (Jan. 17). The services are Christian, and anyone is welcome to attend. Contact Mr. Haynes for more information.

Indiana Math League, round 4, will be held at 3:05 p.m. today, Jan. 15, in the auditorium of the science and math building. Bring a pencil and calculator to participate. All students interested in challenging math questions are invited to participate. We are presently tied for fifth in the state. Seven participants tied for top score at Culver last month with five out of six correct: Tianyu Han, Chuai He, HyoungKeun Kwon, Hao Wu, Yongzuan Wu, Zhaoheng Zheng, Xiaodan Lou.

All students who signed up to be in Hispanic Student Union and would like to help with the HSU sponsored culture/music night at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, should contact Katherine Lewis at lewisk@culver.org or Ana Pedrajo at pedraja@culver.org. If you didn’t sign up for HSU at the activities fair last fall and you are interested in helping out or being a part of HSU, don’t hesitate to email. Everyone is welcome to participate and attend the event, where Popo Arriolla from Honduras will be performing. Students, faculty, and faculty children are all welcome.
