Annual Veterans Day ceremony set for Sunday

All CMA cadets and CGA students are required to attend the Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11. This celebration at Culver Academies has not changed since the original Armistice Day event in 1924 was conducted at the Legion Memorial Building dedication.

Student Life

Read the new newsletter from the Uptown Cinema and also find out what is playing this weekend by clicking here. The newsletter provides movie details to students, faculty, and staff, and expresses the views of the Uptown Cinema only, not necessarily the opinions of anyone at Culver Academies.

Any students interested in joining the cooking club should please email Jocelyn Kinsey at kinseyj@culver.org. The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, under the mezzanine.

Protestant Chapel and Sacred Silence will meet at 9 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, because of the Veterans Day ceremony. Roman Catholic Mass will meet at 5:30 p.m. None of the locations for the services have changed. Please contact Mr. Haynes (haynest@culver.org) if you have questions about the change in schedule.

A college advising extravaganza will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 10. It is a work session for college applications. This is not mandatory but encouraged. Seniors must sign up in college advising to attend, so Corky can order enough food for the program. We also are asking for volunteers from the Humanities Department to help look over essays.

Drop a stitch lately? Come to the Knit-a-Thon from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, in Roberts Auditorium and we’ll help you pick it up. There will be snacks and a movie, and you don’t have to know how to knit or crochet, or even have needles. Patterns for various baby caps will be available and experienced knitters will be there to help you.  It would be greatly appreciated if you bring your own materials, but some will be available at the Knit-a-Thon. Completed caps will be donated to the Columbia Presbyterian Hospital nursery for our Senior Service Project. All faculty and students are welcome.  If you have any questions, please e-mail Samantha Fremer (fremers@culver.org) or Aileen McCluskey (mcclusa@culver.org). We can’t wait to see you there.

The Huffington Library has purchased a new online database, Oxford Language Dictionaries. Click on the name to explore this new resource. You will also find it on the library’s web pages, along with our other Online Database Subscriptions, which you also can access by clicking on the bolded name.

The Mariah Wind Quintet will present “An International Recital on Armistice Day” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in the Alumni Lounge of the Legion Memorial Building. Music from Britain, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Argentina and Cuba will be offered. Admission is free and open to the public.

Karaoke will be held at 8 p.m. tonight, Nov. 9, in the Shack. Get ready for the night that you finally get to show off your singing skills in front of the entire school.  Bring a song, bring some friends, and get ready to have a Karaoke night you’ll never forget. Sponsored by CAB.

Cordon will meet for a meal, Christian fellowship and a devotional Sunday, Nov. 11. Meet us at 5:30 p.m. at Logansport Gate for a ride. Please contact Mrs. Siefert (brynkim@yahoo.com) if you would like more information about Cordon.

A recreation ride is at 10 a.m. every Saturday. Please sign up by emailing Ms. Relos.
