Sign up for the next Culture in Chicago outing Interested in music? Like Chicago? Join us for the next Culture in Chicago outing on Sunday, Jan. 13. Sponsored by Academy trustee Paul Gignilliat, students and faculty are invited to attend the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s “Beyond the Score” performance of Tchaikovsky’s 4th symphony. This trip includes the performance at the CSO, a sit-down lunch and box dinner from a Chicago restaurant. There is no cost to trip participants. Speech team performs well at Chesterton Congratulations to the Speech team for a dominating performance at the Chesterton High School’s Skeffington Memorial Speech Invitational this past weekend. Out of 67 entries, 59 placed in the finals, including seven first place and 14 second-place finishers. Congratulations to the competitors linked here and good luck hosting 18 teams and 486 competitors at the 10th Annual Culver Speech Invitational on Nov. 17. Faculty and staff invited to fall sports banquet All faculty and staff are cordially invited to the 2007 fall sports banquet at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, in the Lay Dining Center. We will be celebrating the hard work and accomplishments of our fall athletes. Student Life Indiana Math League round two is at 3:05 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 13. The location has been changed to Mr. Baughman’s room, D206, for this contest only. All students interested in challenging mathematics questions are invited to participate. Bring pencils and calculator to join in on this 30-minute, six-question competition. Congratulations to Zhaoheng Zheng, who scored a perfect six during round one and to Yongzuay Wu and Chuai He, both of whom scored five out of six. If anyone is interested in attending the Newsboys concert in South Bend on Thursday, Nov. 15, email Mr. Haynes today, Nov. 12, if you have not already. The group attending will have afternoon CQ. The trip list has to be finalized and approved, so if you are interested, please contact Mr. Haynes (haynest@culver.org) for more information. Manchester College will visit at 1:30 p.m. today, Nov. 12, followed at 6:30 p.m. by Purdue University. RPI and Source America will be here at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 13. Otterbein College arrives at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14. Wellesley College and Agnes Scott College both follow at 6:30 p.m. that day. The deans of admission from both Wellesley and Agnes Scott will be on campus to speak to all girls from CGA. Faculty/ Staff Support the United Way of Marshall County by dining at the local eateries linked here this week. Each restaurant has pledged 1% of its sales this week to the United Way Campaign. Please return brown campus mail envelopes to Admin Services (#131) to be recycled.
Athletics The varsity sailing team participated in its last event of the season this past weekend, The Great Lakes Championship. Chicago Yacht Club hosted and provided the boats. This was a team racing event, meaning that the A team and the B team 420 scores were added to the Laser scores. Overall, Culver placed 11th out of 24 teams. Timothy Zacher earned the second place trophy in the Laser division. Culver sailors who traveled to the championship were: Hunter DeKoninck (team captain), Samuel Todd, Timothy Zacher, Jennifer Babchuck, Gayle Lewallen, Daniel Ching, Cameron Crowell, Morgan Boundy and Otto Chan.
