Viruses impacting external and hard drives

Three different viruses are infecting hard drives and external drives (i.e. Flash Drives, USB Drives, IPODS, Network Drives, etc.). We will be forced to shut down all internet access and/or network access until the virus is eradicated, unless all users take the steps below.  If we do not get this virus under control, online gaming also will be blocked. Take the following steps immediately.

  1. Follow the directions in the PDF attached here and do the scan yourself and report the results to Mr. Manns in Technology Services (mannsb@culver.org).
  2. Bring your external drive to Technology Services and we will perform the scan.

Kudos to CMA cadets who performed in London

CB Scherer, Jon Juricic, Alvaro Prandini Johnson and Zach Faylor have returned from a successful trip to England. They represented the school and the Lancer Platoon by taking part in the Lord Mayor Show, an 800-year old tradition that is held in the city of London. These cadets were a credit to their unit and to Culver. It was a pleasure for me to be associated with them. A presentation of photographs and a video from the trip will be shown at a future all-school meeting. Any stories of my snoring are exaggerated. Well done, cadets.

Director of Horsemanship Instruction Mark Waller.

Student Life

Peer-to-peer networking and file sharing of copyright materials without permission is against the law. Please take a moment and reflect on the Culver Academies Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), the Student Handbook and the following article in terms of peer-to-peer networking and file sharing.  It is against the AUP to violate copyright and licensing laws.  The Student Handbook has an entire chapter devoted to Student Network and Laptop Policies.  As a reminder, “All users are expected to abide by the rules and guidelines in this policy statement, which is intended to ensure that individuals conduct themselves legally, responsibly, and ethically in their uses of Academy resources” and “Using Proxy-servers or http tunneling services to gain access to sties that are blocked by Culver’s network equipment” is prohibited. Click here for a pertinent article on the subject. Technology Services is not in business to punish or discipline students, but we do want to remind you that you are responsible for your actions. If you have any questions please contact Director of Technology Services Larry Emmons (emmonsl@culver.org).
