Spinach Removed from Lay Dining Center

You may have noticed in the news in late September that spinach was implicated in an E Coli outbreak that sickened over a hundred people in several states.  Read article (9/26/06)

What is E Coli?

The Lay Dining Center responded by immediately removing all spinach from the salad bar.  Food items with spinach as an ingredient were discarded.  Any item on the menu that contained spinach was replaced with a spinach-free product.

On October 9, news broke that E. Coli had been found on green leaf lettuce.  The recall covered green leaf lettuce purchased in grocery stores Oct. 3-6 in Arizona, California, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.  It does not affect lettuce purchased by Culver Academies.

On September 30, 2006, the spinach ban was lifted by the FDA.   Spinach will again be served on the salad bar and the hot line when it appears on the menu.
